Check lettuce growing under cover for grey mould (botrytis) or slug damage.
Cover cress or corn salad plants with cloches to protect them during severe weather.
Earth up cabbages as far as the lower leaves where necessary.
Support brussels sprouts with a strong stake to each plant if not done
previously.
Force rhubarb in to early growth by covering the crown with a box or bin, to exclude light and grow on in a temperature
of about 10°C(50°F) if not done already.
Alternatively if not 'forcing', mulch rhubarb with well-rotted manure.
Cut off old haulms from Jerusalem artichokes and lift tubers, and store in sand in a cool,
frost-free place if not done last autumn.
