Don't plant in frozen or very wet soil, otherwise the plants won't establish successfully, and you may damage the soil's structure.
If mail order plants arrive at a time when you can't plant out, protect them from bad weather.
Open the packages as soon as they arrive, check plants growing in compost for drying out.
Keep them in a cool place indoors, a cool greenhouse or cold frame.
Water the plants if necessary.
Fetch pots of Azalea in to a warmer environment for the winter.
Tender tub plants may suffer in freezing weather, so move them into a cold greenhouse, conservatory or porch until conditions improve
If this is not possible, place the containers in a spot sheltered from cold winds and keep the compost as dry as possible.
Wrapping the containers in plastic bubble sheeting will also help to insulate against severe cold!
