Miscellaneous tasks in June

 

Overview ;

A time for tending newly planted plants, and protecting them from predatory wildlife and extremes of weather.

 

 
 
 

At any time this month;

 

 

  • Keep weeds at bay with regular hoeing.

 

  • Mulch areas to reduce the need for hoeing.

 

 

 

 
 
 

Week No. 23 - 3rd to 9th

 

 

  • Tie in or trim wayward climbers particularly if they are affecting passing pedestrians.

 

 

  • Ensure that containers and planters have not dried out.

 

  • Keep greenhouse temperatures and humidity in check.

 

 

 
 
 

Week No. 24 - 10th to 16th

 

 

  • Fill in gaps where plants have died with plants saved for the purpose.

 

  • If necessary; remove dead or damaged plant growth and blanket weed. from garden pond.

 

  • Top up water levels of ponds and water features if necessary.

 

 
 
 

Week No. 25 - 17th to 23rd

 

  • Small ponds may not contain enough natural food to sustain fish, supplement their diet with proprietary fish food.

 

  • Shade newly planted shrubs to prevent leaf scorch.

 

 
 
 

Week No. 26 - 24th to 30th

 

 

  • Be on the look out for slugs and snails to prevent them damaging newly planted plnts.

 

  • Similarly be on the look out for their eggs and destroy any that you find.

 

  • Don't leave garden chemicals within reach of young children.
