Miscellaneous tasks in August

 

Overview ;

A month for going on holiday or sitting back in your garden and enjoying all that you survey.

 

For exercise you can do a bit of watering and weeding , or mow the lawn.

 

 

 
 
 

At any time this month;

  • If planning on laying turf next month, preparations can begin now.

 

  • If going on holiday, organise a watering regime. e.g. ask a friend or neighbour to do it, or fit an automatic watering system.

 

  • Try and get the garden neat and tidy before going on holiday.

 

  • Top up water levels in ponds and water features.

 

 

  • Order spring flowering bulbs.

 

  • Clean watering can roses and sprayers that have become scaled with calcium deposits.

 

 

 
 
 

Week No. 31 - 29th Jul to 4th Aug

 

 

 

 
 
 

Week No. 32 - 5th to 11th

 

  • As ground becomes available after harvesting, consider sowing a variety of Green manure.

 

 

 
 
 

Week No. 33 - 12th to 18th

 

 

  • If Cyclamen plants have not started into growth yet,water the dormant plants to start them back into growth.

 

 
 
 

Week No. 34 - 19th to 25th

 

  • Ensure fish have some shade from hot sun,

 

  • Trim formal hedges such as Privet and Lonicera.

 

 
 
 

Week No. 35 - 26th to 1st Sept

 

  • Renovate lawn if necessary.

 

 

  • Cut and dry a few spikes of Cortaderia to make a dried flower arrangement.
