Miscellaneous tasks in April

At any time this month;

Plant evergreen hedging  and screening plants from now until the end of May.

Check ponds for leaks and  repair as neccessary.

If the weather is suitable clear up garden of any wind blown debris and weed around structural plants.

Cut back wall climbers growing close to gutters and windows.

Repot Alpines and house plants as required.

Apply weedkiller to paths and drives, particularly areas covered with brick sets.

Check tall border perennials for new growth and support as necessary.

As the weather gets warmer watch out for pests e.g slugs & snails and take appropriate action!

Scarify and feed & weed lawns.

 
 

Week 14 - 2nd to 8th

Various bedding & vegetable seedlings can now be put into coldframe., for example; Lobelia, Onions.

Pot up Celosia, Laurus(Bay) Melon.

Thin out lettuce seedlings.

Spray fruit trees including apples.

 
 

Week 15 - 9th to 15th

Various bedding & vegetable seedlings can now be put into coldframe.

Trim back Hedera ( Ivy)

Remove weeds from containers and top up with fresh compost as necessary.

Check your bonsai tree, root prune if necessary.

 
 

Week 16 - 16th to 22nd

Various bedding & vegetable seedlings can now be put into coldframe.

Similarly various vegetable seedlings.

Sow grass seed to fill gaps in the lawn and thicken growth. Stock ponds with fish.

 
 

Week 17 - 23rd to 29th

Various bedding & vegetable seedlings can now be put into coldframe.

Divide overcrowded aquatic plants.
