Under glass in May

Week 18 - 30th to 5th

Consider fitting automatic openers to your greenhouse vents to ensure regular ventilation.

Wash dust off foliage houseplants in the shower or by means of a pump spray.

If not already done greenhouse beds can be prepared for future planting.

Put up shade netting, blinds or shading paint to prevent young plants being scorched by the sun.

Check regularly for signs of pests and diseases and treat immediately.

Re-pot established Freesia,Pleione plants and divide if necessary.

Pinch out grapes.

Commence feeding Datura Ficus&Strelitzia.

Ensure your greenhouse or frame is adequately ventilated.

Start acclimatizing hardening off dahlia cuttings and other tender bedding plants in a cold frame.

Failing the use of a coldframe, move pots outside during the day, and fetch them in at night.

Pot up Sweet Pepper.

 
 

Week 19 - 6th to 12th

Plant out Tomatoes in a cold greenhouse.

Similarly plant tomatoes in large containers, or growbags in preparation for growing out doors after all fear of frost has passed.

 
 

Week 20 - 13th to 19th

Pot up Calceolaria & Mimosa.

Prepare beds for Cucumber &  Watermelon.

Plant out Aubergine.

Feed indoor Peaches.

 
 

Week 21 - 20th to 26th

Plant out Peppers.

Commence feeding Streptocarpus.

Pot up Calceolaria. 

 
 

Week 22 - 27th to 2nd

Plant out Chilli, Cucumber, Melon & Watermelon.

Repot Amaryllus & Calathea.

Take Streptocarpus leaf cuttings.

Pollinate Peach trees.

Commence feeding Bougainvillea & Zantedeschia.
