The Fruit Garden in March

 

Overview ;

Things should be starting to happen now as fruit trees and shrubs start in to growth after the dormancy of the winter months.

 

This means that feeding and possibly watering are the priority tasks for this month.

 

Ensure that plants get sufficient nutrients for their needs, and don't lack for moisture.

 

 

 
 
 

Week No. 9- 26th Feb to 4th March

 

  • Apply a dressing of sulphate of ammonia at 60g (2oz) per sq m to established Rhubarb plants.

 

 
 
 

Week No. 10 - 5th to 11th

 

  • Spray early flowering Apple trees with a general insecticide.

 

  • Spray Pear trees with a fungicide to control scab disease.

 

 

  • Prune Gooseberry bushes if not done the previous autumn.

 

 

  • Prune leaders on Peach trees.

 

 

 

 
 
 

Week No. 11 - 12th to 18th

 

  • Spray early flowering Plum & Damson trees with a general insecticide.

 

 
 
 

Week No. 12 - 19th to 25th

 

 

  • Prepare bed and plant out Fig plants.

 

 

 
 
 

Week No. 13 - 26th to 1st April

 

 

 

  • Remove all frost-damaged, bent and crowded shoots from established fig trees.
