Overview ;

This month is mainly about harvesting fruit as it ripens, and ensuring that the plants are watered and fed on a regular basis.

 

Similarly a time to keep a watchful eye open for pests and disease.

 

Week No. 27 - 1st to 7th

 

• Thin out Apples after the 'June drop' (natural thinning) to increase fruit size and quality.

 

• Thin out fruit on Peach / Nectarine trees.

 

• Commence harvesting Raspberries if ripe.

 

• Thin out excess Raspberry canes.

 

 

Week No. 28 - 8th to 14th

 

• Harvest Cherries if ready, if not ready leave the fruits on the trees until fully ripe.

 

• Cut back Blackberry runners if not required for layering.

 

• Continue pinching out grape vine shoots.

 

Week No. 29 - 15th to 21st

 

• Check for gooseberry sawfly.

 

Week No. 30 - 22nd to 28th

 

• Prune Pear trees.

 

• Support fruit laden branches on Plum & Damson trees.
