Faq's on; Ficus

I have a rubber plant which is getting too tall for my room.

Can I cut it back to a more reasonable height?

This is quite a common problem, and yes they can be cut back, and is best done in spring.

The cut surface will ooze white sap (latex) and it should be sealed by dusting it with charcoal, or seal it by passing a lighted spill over the surface of the cut.

New shoots will soon develop.

An alternative way of overcoming the problem is to air layer the main stem.
