Fungicide

Rose rust is a fungus that grows on living plant tissue and is usually not serious.

The symptoms appears as orange coloured pustules on distorted stems in spring, and or small orange spots under the foliage in summer.

In late summer these pustules turn black causing premature leaf fall

The fungus produces dark tough sticky spores that survive winter on fallen leaves, stems and supporting framework.

The resting spores remain dormant over winter and in spring are spread on the wind to re-infect the plants.

Suitable fungicides are available to control the problem.

Removing fallen leaves and prunings can also help to control the problem.
