| Peach leaf curl |
|
|
This fungal disease affects nectarine and peaches.
It is noticable in spring when the leaves malform and develop red blisters, these blisters later turn an off white colour.
The blisters burst and expel airborne spores, which lodge in the developing buds.
The fungus then grows and over-winters as a yeast like substance that eventually infects the new emerging leaves. The affected leaves will fall in summer to be replaced by a second flush of healthy leaves.
n.b. Young shoots and fruit may also be affected.
There are a number of fungicides available to control the disease!
These should be applied in autumn at leaf fall, then as the buds swell in late January, and again a couple of weeks later.
