Mesembryanthemum are suitable for rock gardens and the edges of borders.

The flowers, which appear from late June to September, will only open in bright sunshine.

Week 13; Sow the seeds under glass in pots/trays of seed compost and germinate at a temperature of 15°-20°C (60°-68°F).

Germination should take around four to five days.

Week 15-17; Prick out the seedlings into cells/trays and harden off before planting out.

Week 22; Plant out 200mm (8") apart in well-drained garden soil, and thrive on light sandy soils.
