Gypsophila

Common name; Baby's breath

Aspect

Gypsophila elegans; is a hardy annual variety grows to around 600mm (24") high, and the perennial ground cover variety, grows to around 200mm (8”) high.

 

The rosettes of either pink or white flowers appear from around early June until October.

 

They prefer a sunny position, in any well-drained alkaline garden soil.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

They also make a good hanging basket or container subject.

 

 

Cultivation;

 

Week 15; Sow seeds in pots/trays of seed compost and germinate at 13°C (55°F)

 

They should take about five or six days to germinate.

 

 

Week 17; Prick out the seedlings into cell trays or boxes of potting compost, leave for a few days at a minimum temperature of 10°C (50°F) then place in a frost free cold frame until planting out time.

 

 

Week 21; Plant out 250-300mm apart when all fear of frost has passed.
