Godetia

Aspect

Godetia is a hardy annual originating from California that will grow to around 300mm (12") high with a spread of 200mm (8").

The trumpet shaped flowers appear in early July, and come in shades of red through to white and often bi-colours of these shades.

Cultivation;

Week 14; Sow the seeds in pots/trays of seed compost and germinate at 18°-21°C (64°-70°F)

Germination should take about four to five days.

Week 16-18; If large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into cell-trays or boxes of potting compost and grow on at same temperature for a week to ten days.

Week 18; Place in coldframe to harden off till planting out time.

Week 21; Plant out 150mm(6") apart when all fear of frost has passed.

They are best suited to a light sunny site with moist soil.

Note; excessively rich soils can encourage foliage at the expense of flowers.
