Escallonia is a flowering evergreen shrub that is not winter hardy in many parts of the UK.

Dependant upon variety, they generally grow to a height of 1.5metres (5ft) with a similar spread.

The flowers appear from July to October.

Week 18; Pot up cuttings taken the previous year into 125-150mm (5"-6") pots of potting compost and grow on for another year in the cold frame.

alternatively; plant them out into a nursery bed and grow them on for a year.

Week 32; Take 70-100mm (3"-4") long heel cuttings insert them into pots of a 50-50 peat and sand mix and root at a temperature of 12°- 16°C (55°- 60°F)

Week 42; Plant out in a sunny sheltered spot, anytime from now until April.

Once cuttings have rooted pot them up into 100mm (4") pots of potting compost and grow on in a cold frame.

Week 44;  Remove dead flower heads and lightly trim the plant to suit your required shape and size.
