Insecticide

Maggots of this fly tunnel into the leaves and stems of carnations and pinks.

Infected shoots wilt and die.

These pests are not easily eradicated once they have tunnelled into the plant tissues, dusting or spraying with a suitable pesticide in April and early May gives some control.
