| Box blight |
|
|
A defoliating fungal disease of box (Buxus sempervirens) that comes via other infected plants or contaminated soil
The spores can survive for more than a year in fallen leaves
The symptoms are brown spots on the leaves, which cause rapid leaf drop, and black streaks on smaller stems.
The spores on infected tissues can be dispersed in water.
Some control can be had by using a fungicide.
The best control is by prevention i.e. prompt removal of any infected material, and not planting out in diseased soil or near infected plants.
