Bidens

Aspect

 

 

Bidens aurea is a short lived perennial is generally grown as a half hardy annual in the UK.

 

It is a vigorous trailing annual that is an ideal plant for borders, baskets and a wild garden area.

 

Bright golden-yellow flowers appear in June / July and continue flowering until the first frosts.

 

It needs to be grown in a moisture retentative soil, and in full sunlight.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Plants will grow up to 900mm (36") high with a similar spread.

 

They are susceptible to aphid attacks and powdery mildew.

 

 

Cultivation;

 

Week 16; Sow seed in trays of seed compost and germinate at a temperature of 18°- 20°C (64°-68°F)

 

Germination should take about 4-5 days.

 

 

Week 18-19; Prick out seedlings into 50mm (2") cell trays or 50mm (2") apart in boxes of multi-purpose compost.


 

circa Week 22; When all fear of late frost has passed plant out in light, poor, free-draining soil in full sun or partial shade.

 

Pinching out tops at this time will encourage branching.

 

 

Week 38; Take tip cuttings, and once they have rooted, grow on at a minimum of 4°C (40°F)
