Seed sowing

A low growing hardy perennial grown as a biennial, for edging borders, carpet bedding, window-boxes and to grow in pots to produce flowers in winter.

The flowers grow to around 100-150mm (4”-6”) high and come in various colours, flowering from March to October subject to variety.

Regular deadheading is advisable to prevent self-seeding, and to prolong the flowering period.

Week 12; If growing as a perennial, propagate more stock by dividing established plants and planting out immediately providing ground conditions allow.

Week 24; Sow seeds in trays of seed compost and germinate at a temperature of around 15°- 20°C (60°-68°F)

Germination should take around 4-5 days

Week 27; Prick out seedlings when large enough to handle in individual pots or boxes and grow on in a coldframe until planting out time.

Circa Week 36; Plant out into final quarters.
