Bellis

Common name; Daisy

Aspect

Bellis; is a low growing hardy perennial grown as an annual.

Growing to around 200m (8”) high with a similar spread makes this an ideal plant for edging borders, carpet bedding, and window-boxes, and to grow in pots to produce flowers in winter.

They require a moisture retentative soil that does not dry out in summer.

The flowers come in various colours, flowering from March to October subject to variety.

Regular deadheading is advisable to prevent self-seeding, and to prolong the flowering period.

Cultivation;

Week 12; If growing as a perennial, propagate more stock by dividing established plants and planting out immediately providing ground conditions allow.

Week 26; Sow seeds in trays of seed compost and germinate at a temperature of around 15°- 20°C (60°-68°F)

Germination should take around 4-5 days.

Week 28; Prick out seedlings when large enough to handle in individual pots or boxes and grow on in a coldframe until planting out time.

Circa Week 36; Plant out into final quarters.
