Avena

Aspect

An ornamental hardy evergreen perennial grass suited for planting in herbaceous and mixed borders.

 

It has a tufted habit with arching blue-grey leaves and grows to a height and spread of around 300mm (12”)

 

150mm (6”) drooping oat like panicles appear on the 600-900mm (2ft-3ft) stems in June and July.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It is drought tolerant and will grow quite well poor quality soil.

 

Cultivation;

 

Circa Week 13; Remove old growth to promote vigorous new growth.

 


Week 35 >>; Remove the stems when flowers become faded.


 

Week 40; Plant out at any time from now until April in an open, sunny position in any ordinary, well-drained garden soil.

 

Now is also a good time to divide and replant mature plants.
